Pansori Cantata Gilrungjeon U.S. Premiere This Fall

IGJI Director Mina Cho has recently completed a composition called Gilryungjeon ("The Dream of Gilryung"), in which a Western Cantata and a jazz orchestra meet the Korean musical storytelling genre Pansori.  The story reflects the resentful life of a blind Pansori singer named Gilryung and the Passion of Christ.

Gugak Jazz Society members (Insoo Kim, gosu/percussion; Narae Lee, sori/vocal; Nayeon Lee, piri/taepyungso, Doyeon Kim, gayageum) will premiere Gilryungjeon at New England Conservatory's Brown Hall on October 8, 2019, 8:00pm (Free Admisison).  As part of "A Faith in a City" project that the Somerville Museum presents, Mina will also share some significant movements from the piece in an intimate setting at Tufts University's Distler Performance Hall on October 6, 2019, 7:30pm shortly before the premiere at NEC.
